tDA Parent & Student Handbook

Visit our Parent & Student Handbook where you can find all information on current tDA policies & 2024-2025 season!

The Dance Academy rules and policies are for the enjoyment and safety of all students.

Please carefully read and follow.

There are specific risks of physical or property damages, losses, or injury that may result from your child's participation with The Dance Academy and Ballet Academy North. As a student, you voluntarily assume the risks associated with such participation and agree not to hold The Dance Academy or Ballet Academy North responsible for any damages or injuries to your child or property. A waiver needs to be read and agreed to prior to participation in class. The waiver can be accessed through the parent portal on Studio Director.

Class Etiquette

No chewing gum allowed in class.
No food is allowed in the studio rooms, only water.
No cell phone use in class.
Be attentive and positive.
Foul or disruptive language will NOT be tolerated.
Respect your classmates.
Always thank your teacher before exiting the studio.
Wear cover ups to and from class.

Placement

Students will be placed in classes according to age and ability level. The instructor reserves the right to move a student to another class based on what is best for that dancer, their maturity, and work ethic in class.

Unfortunately, we cannot place dancers in classes to accommodate family schedules or carpools.

Attendance

Students are asked to arrive on time. Students more than 10 minutes late will not be allowed in class as it is disruptive to the class. A makeup class can be taken in the same month that a class was missed. To arrange a makeup class, please notify the instructor when you arrive that you are making up a class.

Absences and tardies have adverse effects:
Students who are late or absent miss valuable training/learning time.

Excessive class absences in the spring semester will result in not performing in the spring recital.

Make Up Classes
A limit of one make up class is offered per month and you must call the office to arrange for the make up class.

Dress Code

Dancers are expected to wear proper attire and hairstyle to all of their classes. Neat appearance and grooming make for a disciplined dancer, and more importantly respecting and following rules.

All academy ballet classes have a required uniform. The leotard must be purchased from Movin’ Easy Dancewear through their website: movineasy.com

*Shoes, tights, and accessories can be purchased elsewhere, but the leotards must be purchased using the link provided above.

Please refer to class descriptions for detailed information about dance attire for your class.

Dancers will receive one warning if proper attire is not worn. After that, they will be asked to sit out and observe. Lack of appropriate dance footwear will result in the student observing the class instead of participating.

Communication

Instructors are available to speak with you by appointment only.

We know how important it is to work together to make sure that each student is progressing along in skills and confidence, but conferencing in between classes or at the end of the evening is not effective and distracts the teacher from starting the next class. Please email your instructor to schedule an appointment. Instructors will respond within 24 hours.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are effective when before auditions or to improve in specific areas. Instructors are available for private lessons and each instructor has their own private lesson rate. Please contact the office for more information. Private lesson fee and studio rental fees apply.

Private Lesson Studio Rental Fee

For one hour private with one student:
company member  - $15.00
non-company member - $20.00
outside student - $25.00

For groups, fees start at $45.00+ per hour depending on usage and group size.

Call the office for more information.
